AppleSingle is Apple's official format for representing a Macintosh file on other types of machines. Macintosh files on A/UX (Apple's Unix) systems are usually stored in AppleSingle format. AppleSingle files have no distinguishing filename suffix, so it is usually necessary to select the Binary button in order to download AppleSingle files.
Fetch can get and put files in AppleSingle format. Automatic conversion of AppleSingle files can be turned on and off in the Preferences dialog box.
